In numerous ways, the Student Wellbeing, Disability, and Inclusion Service provides support to students. The collaborative support services for students are the responsibility of the two departments, namely Wellbeing, Disability, and Inclusion.

The Wellbeing team is entrusted with the critical responsibilities of delivering clinical mental health services to students and coordinating the university’s response to severe and complex welfare incidents (including but not limited to violent assault and domestic abuse).

Role of Mental Health Practitioner Jobs in UK

A professional mental health practitioner is required to become a member of our interdisciplinary team comprising welfare practitioners, mental health practitioners, counselors, and disability practitioners. This team provides students with an array of supportive interventions.

Your presence on the multidisciplinary Wellbeing Team at York St. John’s University would be significant, given your credentials and experience as an accredited clinical mental health practitioner specializing in mental health social work, mental health nursing, or a related discipline. In addition to managing and coordinating a caseload of students in need of mental health interventions, your duties will encompass being a part of the rota for a drop-in service. During this time, you will be tasked with conducting mental health assessments, and risk assessments, and offering concise interventions and guidance.

You will be tasked with responding effectively and adaptively to a variety of student presentations at the mental health drop-in, including those of students who are clinically at risk or in crisis. The drop-in program assists students with mental health concerns, including but not limited to anxiety, tension, suicidal ideation, academic difficulties, and relationship issues.

You will possess practical knowledge of clinical risk assessment and be capable of utilizing this expertise in a dynamic environment that demands exceptional situational awareness to facilitate prompt responses. The optimal candidate will possess a profound understanding and track record of effectively executing concise interventions during a single session or visit.

In addition to providing and receiving effective recommendations, collaboration with other main university services and academic department/school teams will be crucial for ensuring that the assistance students receive from the broader university is coordinated appropriately. Additionally, you will conduct post-major student incidents, such as a significant self-harm episode or hospitalization, and follow up with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that these situations are coordinated effectively throughout the university.

Your team will turn to you for direction that is both clear and effective regarding how to respond to difficult cases. You will also assist in providing training to non-clinical staff throughout the university regarding appropriate protocols for handling distressed students, receiving and responding to disclosures, and de-escalating risk.

Requirements of Mental Health Practitioner Jobs

The ideal candidate will possess prior experience in a clinical mental health field that mandates an equivalent level of education and certification, including but not limited to occupational therapy, mental health nursing, or mental health social work.
