For the position of Research Nurse, the Cumming School of Medicine’s Department of Medicine is accepting applications. With the possibility of extension, this Fixed Term Recurring Part-Time position is for approximately six months (depending on the duration of grant funding).

The individual who is appointed will have the duty of gathering project data and will be accountable to the Principal Investigator. Perioperative glycemic management is the subject of this Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Health System (PRIHS) Program-funded project.

A significant amount of time may be spent operating a computer and manipulating apparatus in the workplace. The research nurse’s responsibilities will significantly influence the study’s outcome.

This is a part-time, recurring position. Recurring part-time personnel are hourly workers whose duties vary periodically.

Position Description

An overview of the primary duties and obligations of the position, which may consist of the following but are not restricted to:

  • Analyze and extract pertinent patient information from the Connect Care patient record.
  • Enter patient information precisely into REDCap, evaluating patient data in accordance with research protocols and data definitions.
  • Maintain a database of patient variables that is secure, accurate, and well-organized.
  • Recognize any surgical and postoperative complications
  • Using the Claiven-Dindo scale, evaluate and classify the severity of postoperative and surgical complications.
  • Determine and adjudicate the occurrence of surgical site infection, classify types and subtypes of surgical site infection, and rank the severity of surgical site infection using patient chart data.
  • The process of data collection will involve the utilization of clinical judgment in advanced practice nursing to accurately identify and code patient complications.
  • Ensuring a high standard of care requires competent personnel who deliver expert, professional service.
  • Communication to Principal Investigators of any concerns pertaining to data collection
  • Management of confidential research data
  • Potentially execute additional research responsibilities as delegated.
